Description

Emma Bliss Taylor and Mary Bliss Sewall, sisters from a well-known family in Durham, are dressed for a July 4th parade in 1936.

The Bliss family, for whom a school in Durham was later named, lived for years in one of the most famous houses in the town -- the O. Israel Bagley residence.

Bagley was one of the founding fathers of Durham and his house went on to be the site of the first town meeting, the first store, and the first Congregational Church service.
